An Unexpected Gift

My husband gave me a great gift this weekend. It wasn’t the new Kindle I have been researching, nor was it the new iphone case I have been thinking about. Instead, in the midst of a conversation we were having in the living room, about the complexities of life and parenting, he very matter-of-factly said I was beautiful. It was a gift he didn’t even know he was giving to me. It isn’t as if he’s never said that before, but this time it reached a different part of me and was a true gift. I believed him.
Sometimes the simplest of words, spoken from the heart, can truly be a gift. It need not be eloquent, long, or “gushy”.
What gift of heart and thought can you give today?
Smart man! Stuff doesn't matter in the long run.
As we left a CVS drugstore, we saw a woman standing outside holding a sign: "Hungry, please help". We never give cash, but he went next door to the Dunkin Donuts and got her a giant muffin. Not earth shattering, but an immediate and kind gesture.
How very true. Often it's not the big, fancy gifts that mean the most. Quite the opposite. Little gestures can mean so much more, when given from the heart.
