Are Christmas Cards Extinct?
Each year fewer and fewer of our friends and family send out Christmas cards. We used to cover up the wall with them – taped up for everyone to see, not this year – so far we’ve gotten two (not counting the one from the bank). I’m sure we’ll get a few more, but I don’t anticipate the 50 plus we used to get. Each year I would go through and bag up in a Ziplock all the photo cards and the special cards that were really unique. I know postage is high, cards cost, etc., but still – I miss them. E-cards and now even videos are replacing them. Somehow it’s not the same. Oh well, here’s the latest viral “card”, from a family (not someone I know) just an hour from where I live. Enjoy ~
Those people are insane…
We get fewer cards. Just costs too much to mail them.
I love the viral card-hubs and I were laughing over that last night. BUT! I don't think the e-cards, videos, etc elicit the same feelings as a stamped card in the mailbox. We still send cards, and get fewer back, but I am not letting go of the tradition. One of my favorite things about the holiday season!
It is discouraging. I still get around 30 cards, but tellingly the majority are from people over the age of 50. I do save them or use them; some I keep for their messages or designs, some I turn into gift tags for presents the following year, and a few will become crafts for classrooms. Email "cards" are just not the same.
