Elections, Birthdays, and NaNoWriMo
Where have I been? Well, election season is a busy one for me. I work for Kids Voting-Guilford County which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education program for students K-12. We are part of a larger organization Kids Voting USA. The main event of our program is conducting a mock election concurrent with the adult election. While we do this every year, as you can imagine a presidential year is a lot more intense.
In the meantime our youngest is getting ready to turn 13, and for a few months I will have three teenagers. I have also committed to participating in NaNoWriMo again this year. I did it in 2010 and found it to be an exhilarating experience. This year I have decided to use it for writing down all the memories I can. I am not worrying about putting them in chronological order or being written particularly eloquently. The whole purpose of the project is to write down 50,000 words and then go back and edit later. I am doing this for two reasons. One, it will be something I can then organize and have for my kids later on and two, I am hoping to then be able to use it for a character development resource in future writings.
So, I have missed blogging these last few weeks, and I shall be busy this next month – but such is life. Why not join me in NaNoWriMo? I’ll be your writing buddy!
Good luck with NaNo! I've been participating since 2004 and I am quite proud and sort-of braggy to say I've won the last three years! Yay! I'm a bit nervous about it this year – a certain lack of planning has me scrambling for a plot, characters and well pretty much everything!!
Wow! I am impressed. Hopefully I will get onto a roll like that too!
Three teenagers – scary! Good luck with NaNo. Busy editing right now.
Hi, Sheila! Sounds like a great project for NaNo.
Good luck with your writing project. I wish I were as ambitious as you. The last time I write that much was during my college years.
