Full Circle
“Who is this young lady sitting beside me?” I wondered as we site read through the first song. After a successful “run” with the church choir at Christmas time, I had decided, with a little push from my family, to join the choir for Easter. Though not quite ready to commit to the choir full-time, I am grateful they open it up for the holidays.
Her young voice rings out clear and true. As I push to reach those high notes that don’t come to me as easily as they once did, hers come out effortlessly. “I can’t believe this voice. How can this be?” She lays her head over on my shoulder. She is tired after a weekend youth retreat, and has come straight from planting carrots in the Community Garden to choir practice.
I smile as I drop a light kiss on the top of her head. I can’t believe my daughter is singing beside me in the church choir. Though only 13, the director has given her permission to sing with us for Easter. It is a strange sensation for me. I remember singing in church with my mother when I was a teenager.
Life comes full circle. I am blessed.
How wonderful, mom!
That's great for you! I sing like a foghorn. Or, to put it another way, I couldn't carry a tune in a six-handle bucket with the Miami Heat helping me.
