Giving Thanks
One year ago today, at about this time, I was sitting in a hospital admitting area with my husband. He had blown out his back after riding the Virginia Creeper (a beautiful bike trail of about 17 miles) and had rapidly gone from stiffness to actually not being able to walk. It was a scary time for us. We went from heating pads, to daily chiropractic visits to a neurosurgeon in the space of two and a half weeks. The surgery (a first of any kind for him) went smoothly and after an overnight stay he was back home and recovering.
As I look back over the past year I see God’s blessing. We managed:
- a driving trip to Mississippi in the Spring (over 1200 miles round trip)
- flying to California and driving up the coastline, sightseeing in Los Angeles, Big Sur, Monterey, San Francisco – where we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge
- a long weekend trip to the beach
- multiple college visit trips around the state
- a quick driving trip to Mississippi just last week to pickup my Dad (another 1200 miles round trip)
And of course just the normal day to day life. With some adjustments in lifting (no more than 20 pounds), twisting (none allowed!), and daily back exercises – life has resumed.
I am grateful for family, friends, and God’s mercy as we finish up the Thanksgiving season and move into Christmas.
When we have our health, all seems right in life, doesn't it? Glad to hear your husband is doing well. And, I'm a walker … that walk across the Golden Gate Bridge sounds amazing!
