Hand-me-downs
I love hand-me-downs. Let me explain. Not every hand-me-down, but certain ones. Like the china cabinet I got from my husband’s grandmother that’s over 100 years old, or the crockery bowl that came from my grandmother, or the every day china that came from my mother-in-law. I am blessed with a generous family (both sides) who give me things that I would like to have. Used makes no difference to me, that’s fine.
Sunday, my sister-in-law came to lunch. In she walked with a couple of paperbacks she thought I might like to read (she’s a voracious reader) and a gift bag. “I have a present for you,” she said with a smile.
“What for?”
“Just because.”
We sat down on the edge of my bed and I opened up the bag. Inside was a wrapped box. “Wrapped and everything?”
“Yes,” she replied with a huge smile on her face.
I tore open the wrapping paper to see an Amazon box (doesn’t everyone have Amazon boxes at their house to reuse?). Scotch tape held part of it closed (her part she said), and black duct tape held the rest of it (her husband’s contribution). Puzzled I opened it up.
A KINDLE!!! “What!?”
“We bought the new updated one and decided we wanted you to have this one.” (I’m counting this as a very early birthday present!)
By this time my daughter was hanging around and drooling (my sons were soon to follow). A quick tutorial later and I was on my way.
It is highly unlikely I would have ever bought one of these for myself. Too much of an investment without being sure. So this is indeed a very unexpected, but very appreciated, gift. I have now joined the ranks of e-book readers and am enjoying it greatly – and reading more than ever! (Not to fear, I still love reading a paper pages book!)
Hand-me-downs – a blessing!
My recommended blog today is: Elle Strauss – Elle is a published author with an interesting blog. Give her a try!
That is definitely a great hand-me-down. How thoughtful. Hope you enjoy it. I haven't made that jump to e-readers either because of the investment. Sounds like you're going to be having lots of fun. Now I'm off to check out the new link you recommended.

Wow… what fun to read it from your perspective. Love you even more than fun gadgets…
P.S. Thanks for letting me borrow your husband today – He was great!
