NaNoWriMo – What?
I must be nuts. I took the challenge. It wasn’t a double dog dare you challenge, but it felt like it. My writer’s group critique facilitator Ivy suggested, I thought no. Then Linda joined and asked me to do the same. Ah man, I’ve been writing my blog longer than she has hers . . . and I claim to be a writer? How could I say no? I signed up before I could chicken out.
Now I have the cold sweats.
What should I write about? My dreams are filled with possibilities. Then I wake up.
I’ve been writing my children’s fantasy novel for over a year and I only have 12,500 words. Who am I kidding? How am I going to write 50,000 words in one month? The idea is quantity not quality – no editing, do that in December. Write in November? I’ve got a child’s birthday, a 600 mile trip to pick up my Dad and bring him home for the holidays, Thanksgiving, my niece and her family coming to visit my brother (I get to meet the new grand-nephew),a job, laundry, housework, Christmas shopping . . . . the list goes on.
And yet, if not now – when? I sometimes do my best performances when I’m under the gun and have more than I can possibly do to get done. So, here I am. You may not hear from me much in November, except for the occasional yelp. We’ll see. I may not succeed. But I’ll never know until I try.
YOu go girl! I know you can do it! Just let the ideas flow! Don't worry about typos or grammar… Just get the ideas down…
and by the way, I either don't have a single good idea, or I have so many I can't decide… it depends on the hour! 🙂
Hooray for you! I've never done NaNo, but I'm happy to cheer you on, starting right now … Raising my coffee cup in a toast … Happy writing 🙂
My thoughts exactly. Why not give it a try? Now I'm going to follow you on twitter 🙂
