Sludgies (State Cookies)

One of my favorite cookies growing up was my Mom’s “State Cookies”. I still use her handwritten recipe today. A few simple ingredients that most people keep in their kitchen all the time, and you have a great cookie. When I grew up, I discovered they had another name – ” No Bakes”. You cook them on the stove and then spoon them out to cool on wax paper. My children love these cookies, though they have renamed them yet again. For some reason I don’t seem to get the consistency “right” as much as I’d like and they don’t always set up great. My kids have renamed them “Sludgies” and ask for them by that name a lot. My husband claims to hate these cookies, and yet I see him eating his fair share of the take. So, in our house we have Sludgies. Now that I’ve written about them, I guess I need to go make a batch!

They look so good!
Oh I haven't made these in years but I used to love them!
Hi Sheila! I just discovered your blog through the A-Z and I'm a new follower. Great to meet you!
I've never heard of these cookies but now you've made me want to try some in the worst way. The look so yummy!
I love No Bake Cookies! We've been making them here for years–but not recently. Now I need to make some today!
One of our favorite cookies! I vary things a bit as to whether to use regular or Dutch cocoa. I've also been tempted to try them with crunchy peanut butter but haven't done that yet.

These look yummy. I prefer no bake cookies to any others, they are usually more of a combo of a cookie and candy. Coming over from Arlee's place and I'm a new follower 🙂
I found a recipe for a cinnamon no bake cookie that I use.. It's amazing!
We just called them chocolate no-bake cookies.
Recipe, please?
These look delish…probably not good for me (in any quantity).
I love no bake cookies! My mom used to make them. I really need to get that recipe from her.

I think it is neat that you still use your mom's handwritten recipe! I bet it does bring back memories when you bake batches of these cookies! Sounds like a great family favorite 🙂
enjoy Sunday!

Oh I love those kind of cookies! Excellent post.
The cookies look good. I cook a lot of things where I do not use recipes. My son's fiance has asked for my recipes for soups and I have told her that the next time I make one, she'll have to just watch.
These are my favourite cookies, and I'm here from the A to Z challenge to eat'em all~ R
No matter what the name, these have been favorites in our house. If you have trouble getting them to set up, you might want to add just a bit more oatmeal. Works for me.
Your blog was mentioned at Tossing It Out, so I clicked on over. I'm a new follower.
I'd never had these till I got married! Wow, what I was missing! One of my favorite parts about making these is eating all the "drips" on the wax paper that are left when you've put them away! Perfect choice for "S"!
I. MUST. HAVE. SOME. I hope you'll share a recipe!
Sadly, I've never eaten any. But they do look delicious.
