What Was I Thinking?
So, I decided this year I was going to try and observe Lent by giving something up. I’ve never done that before, thought it’d be meaningful. I gave it some thought (though not admittedly much – I decided to do it the day before Ash Wednesday) and decided to give up chocolate. I knew there was no way I could give up all sweets like some of my friends, coffee wasn’t that big of a deal, so I decided on chocolate. Feeling pretty noble about it, I told my friends and family.
Well, here I am a week later and I have a new respect for those who choose to give up something for Lent. It truly is a challenge at times. It’s not undoable – but it does take some dilligence. I think it is working though, because everytime I turn down chocolate I remember why – and that makes me take a moment to reflect on the Road to the Cross.
Lent – a new experience.
We should all stop and reflect on the road to the cross; however we tend to minimize it, yet it is the single most powerful event in our lives! Thank you Jesus.
