My dad was never a huge hunter, but he did hunt from time to time when I was growing up. One time when I was in 4th grade (as best I can remember), he went hunting with some men in our church for deer. I don’t know how many of them there were (hunters that is), but I do know that Dad came home with his share of his first deer. My mom was never one to shy away from any cooking challenge. She concocted a wonderful dish of cubed up venison steak with a rich, peppery gravy. All I remember is that it tasted delicious. I haven’t eaten much (if any) venison since that time, but I shall always remember that winter of venison fondly.<\/p>\n
