Christmas is naturally the time (for most of us) to turn our thoughts to others. We start pondering on the perfect gifts to give, we bake much loved goodies and fix family favorite meals. In our family we take a poll to find out what movies are the favorites for the year that we have to make time to watch together. This year it’s White Christmas<\/em> (Bing Crosby)<\/a><\/strong>, Scrooged<\/em> (Bill Murray)<\/a><\/strong>, Scrooge<\/em> (Albert Finney)<\/a><\/strong>, and It’s A Wonderful Life<\/em> (Jimmy Stewart)<\/a><\/strong>. These are cherished days\u00a0and I love thinking about what everyone wants\/needs to have a fabulous holiday season.<\/p>\n

I was having lunch with a friend yesterday though and\u00a0in our conversation discovered that we had both identified personal Christmas needs in order to enjoy the season. For me, last Saturday I simply told my husband I was taking a personal Christmas day. We met up for a a piano recital, but I spent most of the day shopping by myself. Not that I bought that much for Christmas, but it was important for me to spend that time enjoying the atmosphere, poking around looking at stuff, buying some new Christmas earrings, and having no schedule. Part of hers was needing more time with friends than had been originally planned, so she did reached out and planned it.<\/p>\n

Taking the time to figure out what we need personally is important. Not only at Christmas, but all year long.\u00a0I’ve discovered you can’t take care of others for very long if you don’t take care of yourself first. It’s easy to forget that when you’re having a good time giving to others. But if you don’t, you’re likely to crash and burn at the most unexpected and inconvenient times. So – what do you need to nourish yourself during this holiday season? Do your friends and family a favor – find out what it is and do it. Everyone will be grateful, and you’ll enjoy the season even more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
