Irene’s Wedding Gift
Irene was not invited, but she didn’t seem to care. We anxiously waited to see if she would crash the wedding. As we sat waiting for the outdoor wedding to begin at noon, it appeared she would not show up. But no one knew for sure.
Right on time the music played and the ceremony began. The groom’s smile was only outshone by the bride’s. The sun was warm, but the breezes kept us comfortable. Unfortunately the loud breeze also kept us from hearing much of the ceremony, they were apparently Irene’s way of making her presence known.
Since I couldn’t hear terribly well, I found myself observing other details. The wind blowing through the trees, the joyful expressions on the faces of the wedding party. The sincerity of the minister’s face as he spoke to the couple. The commitment of the bride and groom as they made their vows to each other before God, their families, and their friends.
I found that watching the wedding instead of listening to it gave me a new perspective. Body language and facial expressions spoke loudly. Nature’s touch on the ceremony added a certain sense of organic spirituality. Instead of being irritated at not being able to hear all of the homily and vows, I gave thanks for the opportunity to witness the union of two souls from a different angle.
Instead of crashing the wedding, Irene sent a gift. The newly married couple had to delay leaving on their honeymoon by a day, since they were flying to Hawaii via New York. Living in California, their families treasure any time they get to spend with them.
Turns out Irene wasn’t out to ruin the wedding after all.
Sounds wonderful.
What an excellent perspective!
Irene gave them a unique wedding day story!
What a blessing to see a wedding through a different perspective. Lovely.
That's a lovely story, it must've taken courage and commitment to get married on such a day. Thanks so much for sharing it. Irene was coming to our house too, but the Lord sent her to the shore for the weekend : )
I chose you for The Versatile Blogger award. Congrats! You've already received the award Hope Faith & Life. I wrote a description as to why I chose you.
