O + bstreperous = OBSTREPEROUS
ob·strep·er·ous
[uhb-strep-er-uhs]
–adjective
1. resisting control or restraint in a difficult manner; unruly.
2. noisy, clamorous, or boisterous: obstreperous children.
What a great word, Obstreperous. Children most often could have this word used to describe them, but it’s interesting to me that the two definitions listed have opposite imagery. It also somewhat subjective and depends on one’s viewpoint. As the mother of two boys (and then a girl) I am well aware that there have been times others would call my kids obstreperous meaning unruly, while I would only consider them boisterous. (Of course sometimes even I call them unruly and have to reel them back in.)
I’ll take the sometimes obstreperous nature of my children and their friends any day – because I believe they will grow up to change the world for the good because of that very nature.
It's a great word, full of spirit, which as you so rightly point out is the very quality they'll need as adults. Sue@JumpingAground (Alliteration & drabbles)

Obstreperous sounds like a dinosaur gone wrong to me.
Hehehe. I love the word obstreperous!
Glad to have met you through A to Z.

It's funny how one word can have such different connotations. I've heard people use words like "ambitious" in this way, one in a positive sense, one in a negative sense.
First I've read the German word for 'Osteoporosis' … which was a bit disturbing, knowing your great choice for daily words! No, I'm not suffering from dyslexia! *g*
It's interesting, what wonderful words the English language contains – I'm a bit sorry, not knowing it so well! Maybe I should improve my skills?!?

I can think of a couple people who never outgrew it…
I came here looking for ferrets and found a great post instead! 🙂
Great word! I'm going to try to use it in a sentence today :))
Thanks for the follow! Great to meet you!!
Great word. I have two boys, as well. I would definitely use obstreperous to describe them at times.
Nice to meet you via the A to Z Challenge!
Boys are very prone to being obstreperous. At my daugher's 7th birthday party, we had a slumber party for the girls. They were terrific. At my son's 7th birthday party, the boys were at my house for two hours and drove us NUTS!
haha! I'm with Bob! :o)
Obstreperous, obstinate, oblivious, obsequious, and OBsolutely wonderful!
BTW, how' d the weather hit you in NC?
It's certainly better than having depressed or withdrawn kids. Just get them under control before you send them to teachers like me. 😉
