Rough Draft Finished!
I did it. I finished the rough draft of my manuscript. It has been a long time coming. I actually know the date I started, May 9, 2009.
I am not one of those authors who can say they have always burned within to write and this story has just been bursting to come out. On the contrary, I discovered I liked writing only within the last 10 years through some letters to the editor and some creative non-fiction writing that got published in our local newspaper. That led to the creation of this blog at the beginning of 2009.
Then a friend asked me to be part of a new critique group she was starting. I felt inadequate, except that most of us there were new writers so I wasn’t alone. I submitted a few pieces and then thought I’d start this book. For various reasons that are either too boring, too lame, or no longer important – I just couldn’t seem to finish it. But yesterday, Labor Day 2012 I did it!
It is a rough draft and there is still plenty of work to be done – but I now have the confidence that I will get this polished up and ready to send off.
So, if you have a dream that is sitting on a shelf somewhere – I encourage you to dust it off and try again – you can do it!
Congrats. As someone in the middle of revisions I welcome you to the next stage. Keep going!

Congratulations!
That's wonderful! Keep at it!
Congratulations, Sheila! Hey, I understand. It was never a big burn for me either.
Congrats…that is probably how long I would take…just coz.
Good for you! This was inspiring as I have my "story" sitting right next to me in the room, all I have to do is sort it out and write it down. The plot was 58 years in the making! I wish you wonderful success with getting your book published, keep up up to date on how it goes!
Sheila, You are one of my heroes!!! Way to go, girl! L
