B + abble = BABBLE
bab·ble/ˈbæbəl/ [bab-uhl] –noun
7. foolish, meaningless, or incoherent speech; prattle.
Definition taken from dictionary.com
I find that I tend to babble when I am feeling anxious, scared, nervous, or insecure. I understand when I do that and when others do that. It’s relatively easy to spot and correct.
However in the quest to blog, it can be easy to just babble. Looking back over my blog I can see plenty of times when there has been no real point to the post, and I’m okay with that. But now I’m looking forward and I want to do less babble. More postings with substance. Maybe even take some chances (I’ve been practicing on a few like my Tiger Mom post and I even got action on Bill Gates and the Amish which I didn’t expect) by posting on things that might create “gasp” controversy. The A to Z Challenge is giving me plenty of opportunity this month!
I hate conflict, but I think writers have the ability to provide talking/thinking points for people so that real conversation can take place – and relationships and action follow out of that.
Just some thoughts on babbling (which I may have done some of since I am on pain medication for an injured knee).
I babble too 🙂 I dont often think about my post before hand, but since I started preparing for the A to Z Challenge I have given more thought and careful planning and I find it very enjoyable. Looking forward to reading more of your A to Z posts Sheila 🙂
*groan* Babbling.
Yes I know what you mean. I do it during job interviews.
Not good.
Oh I babble…in my blog and in life. Just ask my husband : )
Great topic. Babble – I think we all have done it. But over the years I find I am talking less – writing more – but talking less 🙂
I can relate to that need to avoid conflict, I find myself doing it too. There's a quote along the lines of this, "Speak your truth, even if your voice shakes." It's good advice, and quite difficult to do.
Think before you babble? That's all right. My wife likes to babble. It's cute. Think it's her way of processing stuff.
You, babble? Nah. I have always found our conversations deep and meaningful. 🙂
I tend to babble as well. And it gets worse when you realize you're babbling and trying not to.
I turn into a babbling machine when I'm nervous! lol And my first blog posts were about anything and everything and had no real point. (Still guilty of that sometimes!) Hope you feel better soon! 🙂
Babbling . . . definitely something I do on my blog. Thanks for the thoughtful post on controversial blog posts. I hope your knee heals quickly.

I think any of us who commit to blogging regularly end up babbling from time to time… it's pretty darned normal. Nice though, when even the babbles get response! It is so hard to predict what will take off…

My posts are a bit long..so my goal is to cut down on the babbling and keep it concise. Don't want to lose the readers and the chance for discussion.
Thank you everyone for your comments. I think we all agree that babbling happens. We just have to decide individually what we're going to do about it. 🙂 See you tomorrow!
Yep, I tend to babble incoherently when I am nervous too. Only realizing afterward what I had said and blushing a deep tomato red.
Thank you so much for following my blog.
If you haven't already noticed, I am a top of the line babbler! I enjoy your babble and it would be awesome if our book tours would coincide… 🙂
I hate conflict as well so I've steered away from making controversial comments on my blog. You make a good point about it being a stepping stone for a real conversation.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I look forward to seeing what you'll have up next!
Periodically I like to babble just hear a sane person speak…ya know what I mean? Of coourse you do.
I've been told I babble a lot, husband once threatened to record me and play it back to show just how many times I say ummm

Nice to meet you Shelia. Thank you for stopping over at my blog too!
Babble…..I am the queen of babble!!
A blogger after my own heart who puts definitions in blogs! 🙂 (I did this frequently last year in the challenge… and this year in the post I ended up scrapping). Welcome to the challenge! I am trying to limit my babbling as well…
Sorry about your knee. Sounds horrid. I'm no stranger to orthopedic issues, pain, or pain meds, so if you feel like whining, feel free. I'll listen.
Thanks for stopping by and following! I think it will be a great ride!

Hi there, new follower here. *waves* Mercy sent me over.
Babbling helps us share our thoughts and usually ends with a few insightful points along the way. 🙂
My Blog
I'm here from Mercy's blog too! Sometimes I babble on my blog, and often I ramble, but every now and then things click and I write something that I think is worth reading. I love the folks that hang in there with me thru the rest. Blogging is great therapy, it helps us clean up the clutter of what's bouncing around in in our heads and lives! :-)) Want more fun writing practice?
