Bologna

Bologna was a sandwich staple when I was growing up. Not sliced though, we bought it in the big red “tubes”. Seems like we’d have the butcher slice part of it thin and then bring the rest home “whole” so my parents could slice it according to what they liked (my dad liked thick).
We had a hand crank meat grinder that my mom would clamp onto the side of the counter. In it would go a chunk of bologna, Velveeta cheese (we’ll talk about that tomorrow), and relish. Grind it all together and out comes a terrible looking mixture. Add mayonnaise to and it became a sandwich spread (think potted meat with “stuff”).
My favorite bologna sandwich however was bologna, cheese (Velveeta in the old days – cheddar now), and a big slice of onion. Medium mayo on white bread. Unless it was a fried bologna sandwich . . .
I think I’m destined to eat bologna for lunch today . . .
B is for Bologna / A to Z Blogging Challenge
Ugh. Sorry but bologna scares me just a bit. Of course, this is from the girl who ate olive loaf right from the package like it was candy!
I have had lunch and yet im now hungry again. lol
My bologna has a first name, its O-S-C-A-R… I think I'll stick with the asparagus. Thanks for coming by my blog!!
I never, ever liked bologna, much to my mother's chagrin. I did halfway like the sort of skin around it…unfortunately that would be pretty hard to live off π
I grew up with the packaged stuff from the grocery store…you know, the little packs already sliced? I'd cut slits in it and pop it in the microwave for a quick breakfast….havne't done that in YEARS, but now I have a nostalgic craving. π
WOW My mom used to get those big rolls of it too. When I was eating it my favorite sandwich was a peanut butter and bologne sandwich. π
my favorite in lebanon balogna!!! it's the best especially, the double sweet kind!
Love it!
Ok, now i totally want a bologna and cheese sandwich! Great theme! I'm looking forward the tomorrow's post, if it has anything to do with the cheese you suggested π
Cheers,
Jen

I ate so much of this when I was a kid I can not bare to look at it.
I haven't had a bologna sandwich in years. I think I need one now. I used to love them with lots of mustard.
Good luck with the challenge!
OMG- we (my sister and I) lived on bologna sandwiches- usually with mayo and always on Wonder bread. Fried bologna? I thought I was the only one who ate those. It was one of my father's lunch specialties! So great to meet others.

I grew up on fried bologna sandwiches with mayo. YUM! Enjoyed your B, and I'm looking forward to reading more from you this month.
