Cheesy Cheese

I love cheese, all kinds. When I was a kid the cheapest cheese was Velveeta. We’d buy our 2 pound box, slice it off as needed and it went on every sandwich, every grilled cheese, everything that needed cheese. I remember that a treat would be when Mom would buy an 8 slice pack of individually wrapped cheese for the sandwich in my lunch for field trips. That was a real treat (along with the pimento loaf lunch meat she would buy). Of course we always had cheddar too, but that was rare to put on a sandwich.
Now I rarely buy Velveeta as it seems expensive and our kids don’t like American cheese unless it comes from a fast food place.. We keep cheddar and feta in the refrigerator at all times. At Subway I always order provolone and for road trips we always take Swiss for a picnic on the road. At restaurants I’m a sucker for anything with goat cheese.

Cheese, much like chocolate, is such a weakness for me! I love it all, except feta! We always have blocks of cheddar and Monterrey Jack in the fridge! Oh and let's not start thinking about Havarti!
Sheila, great post. My mom always got Velveeta for mac and cheese. Hubby uses it for fish bait. I still melt it and add Rotel hot tomatoes to make nacho sauce. It's a pretty versatile "food."
Velveta is a staple in our house. My granddaughter loved Rotel. My grandson is more of a colby-jack kind of guy.
I try to keep colby and sharp cheddar around, and I occasionally buy Swiss or muenster. Mmm. Cheese.

I heard they make Velveeta by dumping the remains of all the other cheeses into a vat and adding color and additives. Maybe it's a good thing you don't eat it anymore.
Cheese and chocolate…mmm. I've just been diagnosed with celiacs this week so am lusting after your blog!

I love goat cheese. Especially on omelettes.
Ooh, I, too, am a cheese monster. Never tried goat cheese though, but I am intrigued!

I like cheese; I've just never considered Velveeta to actually be cheese. We always have sliced provolone, block cheddar, a wedge of Asiago or Romano, and usually some sliced Colby or Colby Jack on hand.

Me too! Love all kinds of cheese– the cheap processed stuff, the expensive kinds from Costco, just all of it. Any kind of cheese is my addiction. Oh, and butter, too. Great C word, Sheila!
Oh yummy! Seriously, if I could live off of cheese and bread, a happy person I would be. Unhealthy, true, but happy 😀 I love any cheese…except blue (unless it's in something). Mmmm…off to find some cheese now!
Happy Tuesday!

Pimento loaf always gagged me as a kid for reasons I still don't understand. I love Velveeta…especially in Rotel cheese dip. Provolone and turkey at Subway is my calming sandwich…AND I worship Swiss cheese and rye as a grilled cheese sandwich…which I am going to make right now!! Thanks for whetting my appetite!
Ooohhh I had to visit when I saw the word cheese! I love any cheese except hosts cheese, the only one I can't stand. My fave had to be a bit of chedder, came beat a bit of good old chedder! 🙂 I also love hallumi…I'm going to crave cheese all day now hehe
Cheese is the best. It makes everything taste better! (with the exception possibly, of lima beans!)
Man I love cheese. Our supermarket sells two really delicious ones at the moment; Wensleydale with cranberries, and applewood smoked Cheddar.
Mmmm *dribble, dribble*
