Frosting – 7 Minutes

In the days before canned frosting my mom always made her own. She didn’t mind using a box mix more often than not, but frosting? She made several different ones, but had a special one that we all especially loved. 7 minute frosting, it was so fun to watch her make it. The test of being perfect? Hang it upside down in the bowl. The best part was after she put it on the cake and it sat for awhile, the outside would get a little crunchy . . .
I’m too lazy to make it, and the fluffy white frosting by Betty Crocker is really, really good. But memories of that frosting . . . I just might have to give it a try.

I've been admiring the snow and frost still on the North Yorks Moorsfrom the storms we had earlier in the week. Those still withou electricity are given the Electricity Board a frosty time.
I prefer your tpe of frosting though.
You should definitely try your own! A simple frosting is really easy and so much tastier than anything Betty Crocker can produce!
I still make home made frosting. I'm not a fan of the canned.
Happy Easter!
I'm with you….Betty and friends all the way. I can't recall if my mom ever made her frosting. Next time I see her, I'll be sure to ask.
My mother (and grandmother) made 7 minute frosting. It was always a treat to watch her work her magic and make this yummy frosting. Thanks for the memory!
As I've gotten older, I've lost the taste for frosting. I just don't care for it all that much. Or cakes and cupcakes, for that matter.
One of these days I may try this frosting for my kids' sakes. It seems easy enough.

My mom always made the frosting too… Just curious… does anyone else call it "icing"?
This sounds a little meringue-ish, and I love meringue. (Just wait until my post on M day). I think I tried making my own frosting once, but my kids are so used to the stuff in the can, that that's what i go with. Based on people's comments, I might have to try it.
I went with a Float for F day (Root Beer Float- YUM).

Haven't had anything with frosting in a while. We call it 'icing' here, but anyway, we tend to make butter icing.
