ver·i·si·mil·i·tude
[ver-uh-si-mil-i-tood, -tyood] –noun
1. the appearance or semblance of truth; likelihood; probability: The play lacked verisimilitude.
2. something, as an assertion, having merely the appearance of truth.
As a writer I want my work very much to have verisimilitude. Even works of fiction must have an appearance of truth or probability in order to be successful long term.
I've seen this word many times. Never knew the meaning or how to pronounce. I'm still afraid to use it out loud in a sentence.(:
Big, brainy word today!
Good word. Writers definitely need to put a certain amount of verisimilitude in their writing. Sure, you can suspend disbelief, but only if it's realistic enough to buy into it.
