Insecure Writer’s Support Group
So, it’s the first Wednesday of the month which is when I’m to post for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group that I belong to. It also happens to be the day I meet with my critique group. I must admit, that I felt pretty discouraged when I went this morning. It was a small group, actually just the three original members that remain from when the group began three years ago. We are taking the summer off, and will begin back in September with our members that have joined us. But in the meantime, we came up with a plan, just the three of us. We are going to take one afternoon where we will meet for lunch and then go somewhere quiet and “inspiring” that we will write. It will be a mini writer’s retreat. It’s the most we can manage with the full and busy lives we have (two of us work a couple of part-time jobs and have kids at home, and one has aging Alzheimer parents and a child getting married), but it suddenly gave me a perked up attitude. I suspect I will accomplish much more that day than I have at home lately!
It is important to have people around you (not just the Internet community, which can be great) who can give you the support and encouragement you need. So if you’re feeling a bit stuck, I suggest you find one or two people who will schedule a day or even half a day (like us) to go work on your individual writing projects together. There’s strength in numbers!
Glad that meeting got you motivated again!
Great advice! I definitely need a critique group or someone nearby who supports/encourages my writing. There's only one person I know who understands my passion for writing and she's just out of reach. I hope your 'min-retreat' is inspiring and productive.
Found you through the IWSG. It's my first 'meeting' and I've received a lot of helpful advice already. Have a great weekend, and good luck with your writing!
