Quiet . . . one of my favorite things
I have discovered in my life that there are all kinds of quiet, and my favorite kinds are not absent of sound. Some of my favorites have been:
- listening to my infant children sleep (years ago)
- when the lights go down and the concert/play is about to begin
- lapping of the waves on the beach during late night or early morning hours
- a hushed congregation during silent prayer
- Ground Zero (maybe favorite isn’t right but certainly powerful)
- my neighborhood blanketed in snow
I’m sure there are more, but these are a few. Quiet has a lot to offer.
The silence of snow is always amazing. Like the whole world is holding its breath.
Quiet, serenity, tranquility, good words. I love quiet. It's time to pray, to listen to God's whisper…To cleanse your brain from noise pollution which is all around us..
I love the quiet of snow when it first accumulates on the grass, rooftops and trees right before the traffic of cars come through it. Those moments tend to put me at ease. Early dawn has a nice kind of quiet when there isn't anything going on but the birds chirping outside. It's so peaceful.

I love the quiet, too. Our house is almost never empty, so I relish moments when I get to be home alone, and as a teacher, one quiet of quiet I love is when the class is silent because they're paying attention and not because they're asleep :p
Silence can be a thing of beauty. I also enjoy listening to waves lapping the shoreline. Each one sounds a little different than the one before it.
